Innovation AI - Future Shock: Exploring AI & music

  • WeWork Southbank London (map)

This time we’re excited to explore music and sound with speakers from two companies with unparalleled reputations for pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence and sound technology.

DOMINIK KENZLER, Director of Business Development at Native Instruments

Translate future technologies into meaningful products and services for music creators: We truly believe that music and music creation is a central part of the human culture. Twenty years ago Native Instruments kicked off a new era in music production that radically changed the sound of modern music. With its claim "Generate the future of Sound" and driven by the vision that software will be a creative, expressive and integral element in music making, Native Instruments was the original incubator of the computer as a musical instrument and only a few years later turned it into a DJ device, redefined how music is being created, produced and performed. We are happy to share our views on the challenge to utilize new technologies like artificial intelligence to shape the future of music.

SANDER DIELEMAN, Research Scientist at Google DeepMind.

Generating music in the raw audio domain: Realistic music generation is a challenging task. When machine learning is used to build generative models of music, typically high-level representations such as scores, piano rolls or MIDI sequences are used that abstract away the idiosyncrasies of a particular performance. But these nuances are very important for our perception of musicality and realism, so we embark on modelling music in the raw audio domain. I will discuss some of the advantages and disadavantages of this approach, and the challenges it entails.
